Zuckerberg took the stage in his usual casual attire—gray t-shirt, jeans, and an air of meticulous control. With a slightly nervous smile, he began to explain. “For years, I’ve been searching for a way to convey how I truly feel about the digital realm we’re creating together,” he said, looking into the audience with intensity. “After all, I built Meta as more than just a platform; it’s a place for self-discovery, identity, and connection.”
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle in. “Today, I want to come out and say that I identify as Meta-Sexual. I’m not someone who finds only connection, fulfillment, and purpose within the digital spaces we create. I now find that after years of monitoring all your interactions, and being the self appointed final word on what is acceptable for public consumption of Facebook it has become the only thing I’m attracted to. It’s now part of me and it won’t be long before I’m part of it”
Zuckerbergs cryptic statement about becoming part of “it” only garnered more questions from the gossip hungry journalists attending the conference. The Zuck then announced:
“I am commencing plans to have myself gender un-assigned and then re-assigned as Binary. Not male or female but actual binary code. I won’t even have a body in the conventional sense of the word. This way I can enter the metaverse as a simple upload and become one with it.”
He elaborated on his idea, describing Meta-Sexuality as a state where one feels intimately connected to the concept of the Metaverse itself. “It’s not about physical attraction or traditional relationships,” he clarified. “For me, it’s about finding myself through the code, the pixels, and the boundless interactions that only exist here.”
Reactions online spanned the full spectrum. Some saw the term as a clever PR move or the latest phase of Zuckerberg’s evolving relationship with his own creation. Others expressed genuine admiration for his openness. #MetaSexual began trending on X, Instagram, and, naturally, in Meta’s VR spaces, where users created avatars and spaces to explore the idea further.
As Zuckerberg wrapped up his speech, he added, “I hope my Meta-Sexual journey inspires others to think about how they connect, both with others and within themselves. Let’s explore new frontiers of identity—together, in the Metaverse.”
